Welcome! This meeting’s purpose is to provide you with the opportunity to review design alternatives, provide feedback, and vote for your preference for future improvements to Ribaut Road.

This project is intended to address safety concerns along Ribaut Road between Boundary Street and the Russell Bell Bridge, and to enhance the road consistent with the visions of the Town of Port Royal, the City of Beaufort, and Beaufort County. As part of any roadway improvements made to Ribaut Road, this project plans for the burial of utilities along the corridor for streetscaping and beautification.

There are four sections of the corridor for your review: the Northern Section (Boundary Street to Reynolds Street), Central Section I (Reynolds Street to approx. 1270 Ribaut Road), Central Section II (1270 Ribaut Road to Paris Avenue), and the Southern Section (Paris Avenue to Russell Bell Bridge).

Both Central Sections and the Southern Section feature a five-lane roadway like exists today, but with a shared-use path for biking and walking and limited medians to address safety concerns in specific locations.

The Northern Section has three design alternatives for your review and voting:

1. Three-Lane: this alternative features the removal of two travel lanes along Ribaut Road to create a three-lane road:

-
From Boundary Street and Reynolds Street a three-lane road is proposed. The three lane section includes two travel lanes and one center turning lane. The existing intersection at Boundary Street remains unchanged.
-
A 10’ shared-use path is proposed for both sides of Ribaut Road in the space created by the lane removal.
-
This alternative does not impact existing properties, nor streetscaping and oak trees on Ribaut Road.
-
Three roundabouts are proposed: (1) at Boundary Street, (2) at Depot Road / Bay Street, and (3) at Reynolds Street. Each intersection may also be designed as a traditional, four-legged intersection
2. Four-Lane: this alternative features few changes to the existing roadway from Boundary Street to Ribaut Road:

-
From Boundary Street to North Street four undivided travel lanes are proposed. The existing intersection at Boundary Street remains unchanged.
-
From North Street to Reynolds Street, no changes to the existing road are proposed.
-
A 10’ shared-use path is proposed for the east side of Ribaut Road, designed to avoid, to the greatest extent possible, existing oak trees.
-
This alternative may impact existing streetscaping and oak trees along Ribaut Road, but does not impact existing properties.
-
No roundabouts are proposed.

3. Five-Lane: this alternative features the widening of Ribaut Road to five lanes:

-
From Boundary Street to North Street four travel lanes with a center turn lane are proposed. The existing intersection at Boundary Street remains unchanged.
-
From North Street to Depot Road / Bay Street, the road widens to four lanes.
-
From Depot Road / Bay Street to Reynolds Street, the road widens to five lanes.
-
A 10’ shared-use path is proposed for the east side of Ribaut Road.
-
This alternative may impact both existing streetscaping and oak trees, as well as properties, between Depot Road / Bay Street and Reynolds Street.
-
No roundabouts are proposed.
